Midi Mavens

Sometimes a trend comes along that makes me think, 'OK, this one isn't for me' and I'll let it pass by. Believe it or not that's what I first thought about skinny jeans, and now you won't find any other style in my wardrobe. The midi skirt is all the rage this season, but the concept isn't what I would imagine to be flattering with its awkward length cutting across the shin so abruptly. However, the more I see girls wearing their floaty, soft versions around London, the more I'm coming around to the idea. I'm on the look out for a midi I can pair with a fitted denim jacket, tucked-in white t-shirt, colourful printed scarf and wedge courts (such as these). Here are some of my favourites:

{Topshop Embellished Hem Sheer Midi Skirt, £38}

{Miss Selfridge Red Crepe Midi Skirt, £34}

{Miss Selfridge Ginger Drop Back Skirt, £35}

{Topshop Waterfall Midi Skirt, £40}

{Warehouse Pleated Wrap Front Midi Skirt, £50}

I Heart Hearts

Hearts are a fun way to inject feminine playfulness to an outfit. My jewellery box is teeming with them and I'd like to incorporate them into my wardrobe too. Whilst I'm not a fan of big, cartoon-style prints, I love the delicate detail hearts can add to a simple shirt or sweater. Accessories are also a great way of adding pretty accents to an otherwise plain ensemble. Here are a few pieces that have caught my eye this week.

{Topshop Sequin Heart Embellished Sweatshirt, £45}

{Oasis Geo Heart Print Square Silk Scarf, £14}

{Asos Heart Print Blouse, £35}

{Ted Baker Heart Clip Bag, £79}

{Orelia Tess Ring, £15}

True Brit

London Fashion Week is in full swing so these past few days I've been feeling particularly patriotic. Seeing as I will never in a million years wear anything flag-print, the classic trench coat exudes true Britishness in all its preppy glory. Last autumn I saw a girl on the tube wearing the most beautiful olive green, fitted trench coat, which I am still keeping an eye out for. It was probably Burberry or Aquascutum, and since those labels are but pipe dreams for me, I've picked out some more affordable, stylish and versatile alternatives.

{Kookai Belted Trench Coat, £139}

{Ted Baker Zip Detail Trench, £249}

{Topshop Belted Fur Collar Trench, £100}

{Whistles Ginnie Mac, £225}

{Hobbs Evelyn Mac, £149 }

{Religion Drape Front Mac, £180}

Feeling 'Collarful'

Embellished necklines have been around for a while now, and they're still going strong. It's a great way to add detail to an outfit without having to add extra garments. I've picked out the following as my current favourites.

{It's getting a bit chilly for bare legs, so let this beaded collar crop blouse by Lipsy do the work instead. It's pretty enough to wear with dark skinny jeans, black suede heels and bright red lipstick (such as this one from Topshop) for a night on the tiles}

{Embrace those autumnal mornings in this cosy knitted fairisle collar jumper by Topshop}
{This gold sequin collar is just one of many in a beautiful collection by Gemma Lister}

{I am resigned to the fact that winter is coming, and what better way to keep the cold at bay with this twill faux fur collar coat from Miss Selfridge}
{Peter Pan sleeves and a collar with a blue contrast underside? Yes please, Jaeger Boutique}

{How to jazz up a plain black top? Add this beaded black collar from Miss Selfridge)

An introduction

Welcome! I've been an avid reader of blogs for a long time and have always thought about writing my own, so here goes. Yesterday I returned to London from a two-week Californian roadtrip with friends, so I'm currently suffering from a bad case of jetlag mixed with endless daydreams of being back in the sun.

The weather is certainly not helping my holiday hangover, so, as a distraction from the rain, here are some pieces I'm coveting to take me from summer florals into a new season of jewel tones. Who says you can't do colour in A/W?

{These tailored shorts in hot pink are certain to brighten up a gloomy autumn day}

{Zara comes up trumps with this gorgeous green leather tote. When it comes to bags, versatility is important, and this one allows you to carry it by the black handle or over the shoulder with the green strap}

{I was thrilled when Topshop introduced their cosmetics range, and I'm gradually adding their pieces to my makeup bag. This nail polish in 'Stolen Sapphire' is a bold statement for A/W, I plan on wearing it for fireworks night}

{Aside from the rock-bottom prices, another great thing about Forever 21 is that they don't replenish their lines. Instead, new styles are brought in and thus same-dress-at-the-same-party faux-pas are avoided. This infinity scarf is a steal at £4, and would look great with gold jewellery such as these from Zoe & Morgan}

{Since no outfit is complete without jewellery, these abstract studs from Topshop are a quirky, original design that will definitely catch people's attention. Even better if you have a sweep of red lipstick to match}
